The Maanshan City Government commissioned Architectus to prepare the master plan, architectural and landscape design for the 29 hectare City Centre project.
Maanshan is a new and rapidly growing city on the Yangstze River, Anhui Province, China. The master plan is generated from major axes formed by the Yangstze River and a temple located on Cuiluo Mountain dedicated to the famous Chinese poet Li Bai.
The design philosophy has been strongly influenced by the physical layout and cultural history of Maanshan.
Building form, orientation and particularly facade design are shaped by environmentally sustainable design principles. The generous use of steel for external elements is being promoted in the design due to the high quality steel manufacturing capacity within Maanshan.
