Central Sydney Plan

Sydney City Council and the NSW State Government appointed Architectus as City Plan Co-ordinator and Principal Urban Designer to lead a team to prepare a new City Plan for Central Sydney comprising a Local Environmental Plan and a Development Control Plan.

The objectives were to enhance the public domain with major development controls and to convert a statutory based planning system to an innovative urban design based plan. The establishment of appropriate controls was addressed in a multi-faceted manner involving the integration of both previous and current study conclusions with research into new ideas and concepts.

Development of the plan included two public exhibitions and a major community consultation program. The Plan included close consultation with the Lord Mayor and the NSW Government Director General of Planning.
