St Paul’s College Marcellin Champagnat Building

St Paul’s College Marcellin Champagnat Building

Located on the southern edge of the college campus, the new Middle School and Administration building defines the threshold of a key new open space for one of Auckland’s oldest Marist Schools.

The project is the first stage of a master plan that forms part of a broader strategy to increase the college roll over the coming years. The master plan envisages a series of new projects that enhance the life of the campus community through the creation of strong, well connected open spaces with the various learning and administrative activities organised around the perimeter.

The brief called for an Innovative Learning Environment (ILE) for two hundred students together with an administration area which could grow to accommodate a future roll of one thousand. In response to the brief the project incorporates a series of flexible learning spaces alongside a new administration area positioned adjacent to the existing main entry. These spaces are able to be configured to support a variety of types of learning and are closely connected to breakout, outdoor and resource areas.

A palette of robust materials and finishes responds to the existing college buildings in particular the adjacent Chapel. Complementary in scale, the new building is positioned to better define the entry court to the Chapel which serves as a key public interface with the broader public and, in particular, the Marist community.
