Harbord Diggers Redevelopment

Harbord Diggers Redevelopment

Architectus, in collaboration with CHROFI and JMD Design, created the competition-winning design for the redevelopment of the Harbord Diggers Club at Freshwater, NSW. The design calls upon the spirit and vision of the Mounties Group and its community members and will achieve a new landmark in club, community and seniors living design.

The Mounties Group, operator of the Harbord Diggers Club, undertook a select design competition to transform the headland site into a vibrant, mixed-use community asset; enhancing the club and its environs for a socially sustainable community to grow and thrive.

The winning scheme, designed by the Architectus + CHROFI + JMD design team, celebrates the location of the precinct with a gentle built form enabling the landscape to predominate, maximising appreciation of the ocean views, capturing the sun in winter and the cooling breezes in summer.

The key components of the redevelopment are: 100 seniors independent living apartments and reinvigorated Club facilities comprising six key functional zones including lounges, bars, restaurants, function areas, cafes, gaming, fitness, child care and community facilities.

The design achieves a high quality outcome with fluid spaces that encourage indoor-outdoor interaction. The built form makes the most of the views by orienting each space to appreciate the best views possible whilst protecting and integrating the natural environment.

The 1, 2 and 3 bedroom independent seniors living apartments are designed to maximise the sweeping views.
