With the Forest High School moving location, a 12-hectare site in Frenchs Forest has become available for renewal and will form part of a significant new town centre. The government-owned and land provides the chance to deliver important public outcomes for this community, including new open space, community facilities, and homes and jobs next to the newly completed Frenchs Forest hospital adjoining the site.

Architectus, in partnership with CHROFI was engaged by the NSW Department of Planning and Environment to prepare a master plan and new planning controls for the Frenchs Forest Planned Precinct to help realise these objectives. The project builds on the Northern Beaches Hospital Precinct Structure Plan endorsed by Northern Beaches Council in 2017. The town centre is expected to deliver up to 3000 new dwellings and 2300 jobs over the next 20 years.

Architectus and CHROFI’s work will facilitate the first phase of renewal in the Frenchs Forest Town Centre, which is one part of the broader strategic centre. The challenge is to create a robust and flexible master plan and planning framework that can adapt over time as the centre evolves into a higher order employment centre.

Working with CHROFI as an integrated design and planning team, the master plan prioritises a high quality public domain, the delivery of a new large central park, improved connections, and a built form strategy that responds to its context but will allow the centre to mature and develop over time.
