CSIRO Pullenvale Office Block R

CSIRO Pullenvale Office Block R

This office building is designed to set up a strong relationship to its site and the surrounding landscape. The facility creates research spaces tailored to the wellbeing of its occupants and to productive and sustainable outcomes for its occupants – BHP Billiton and CSIRO.

This Architectus designed facility houses a division of BHP Billiton working in cooperation with CSIRO researchers at the existing Queensland Centre for Advanced Technology (QCAT) complex at Pullenvale. The new wing responds strongly to the surrounding landscape and is designed as a light and airy box nestling onto the brow of a hill.

Environmentally, the building is specifically orientated to catch cooling breezes taking best advantage of the natural climatic conditions.

The building incorporates a mixed mode ventilation system. The sub floor displacement system reduces energy consumption and improves occupant comfort and health.

The building features a horizontal timber screen on its northern elevation fashioned from recycled materials that gives character and warmth to the interior.
