Australia National University Laurus Wing Modular Student Housing

Australia National University Laurus Wing Modular Student Housing

A high quality living environment has been created in a way that is economical, sustainable and designed for expansion and staged development. The new student accommodation on Dickson Road, Canberra provides 153 quality self contained living units, in a mixture of studio and one bedroom configurations, including accessible units.

The architectural treatment of the building integrates a low cost, high quality prefabricated and affordable student housing module system with built in-place elements to deliver pleasant living and working environments that actively nurture learning and openly encourages social interaction between students. Of equal importance is the provision of secure and comfortable spaces in which to engage in private study and relaxation.

The living modules are arranged into two ‘wings' linked to a common lift lobby area and associated communal spaces. The ‘wings' form a protected landscaped courtyard space that serves as a place for gathering and interaction.

The external building materials have been chosen to reflect the unique construction methodology of the project - the majority of external cladding materials are prefabricated and panelised to maximise efficiency in assembly. Materials have been selected for durability and low maintenance.
