Architectus is pleased to announce the appointment of Richard Middleton as Principal.

Richard is an award-winning architect with 20 years’ international experience in the design and delivery of tertiary education, luxury and affordable multi-residential, retail, arts and hospitality projects.

With an emphasis on collaboration, innovation and quality, Richard will co-lead Architectus’ delivery of informed, contextual designs for tertiary education projects.

Prior to joining Architectus, Richard ran his own Melbourne-based practice, RMA, where he focused primarily on student accommodation projects including RMIT’s Walert House, which won the 2017 Australian Institute of Architects (VIC) Best Overend Prize.

Other significant project experience includes, while at BVN, the Briggs and Jackomos Halls of Residence for Monash University, which won the 2012 Australian Institute of Architects Frederick Romberg National Prize; and while at Kerry Hill Architects in Singapore, the three-tower residential development Urban Suites, and early works for the University of New South Wales Changi Campus.

Richard said: “I was drawn to Architectus for a number of reasons, including its broad capability and collaborative research based approach. I particularly appreciate Architectus’ rigorous design review process and commitment to innovation.”

“The tertiary education team have a great foundation of expertise, and I look forward to working closely with them to build upon this even further.”
